Customer Reviews:

Close, but not quite there. (05 March 2010)
I've heard quite a bit about the MetroFi line of headphones, and I looking for a decent sounding set of relatively inexpensive headphones for my iPhone, and these looked to fit the bill. The sound quality of these are great; good range and clarity. It's the actual design and construction that do these headphones in.

These headphones come with a number of eargels: three standard single flange eargels of differing sizes, and a couple of double-flange eagels, one small and one large. I don't know if it is the material that eargels are made from, the size, the actual form of the gels or a combination of any of those, but none of these eargels fit. I can get them into my ear, and it feels as if they'll stay in place, but they don't. I've used numerous in-ear monitors and in-ear headphones, but this is the first time I've had a pair that refused to stay put. I'd rather not have in-ear headphones that I constantly have to re-adjust. Using eargels from other in-ear headphones alleviated the problem, but not totally.

My second issue is with the cord. The cord is so thick and stiff, that any movement of my head or the cord contributes to the earpieces not staying in place, even with better-fitting eargels. In cold weather, it is exponentially worse. The stiffness of the cord caused it to fray at the sleeve where the cord meets the plug. They still work, but it's only a matter of time before they give out.

Finally, the inline button and mic. The mic is fine, no real complaints there. The control button is fat and bulky and gets it the way. You have to be conscious to not hit the button when you're on a call (otherwise, you'll be hanging-up on a lot of people). I also find myself hitting it inadvertently while listening to music, or when I'm putting the phone with the cord into my pocket.

Other than sound quality, these are just all around poorly designed, and I cannot recommend these. My overall rating is a little generous; if I could, I would give the Ultimate Ears MetroFi 200v headphones 2.5 stars instead of a full 3 stars.

I bought these last June, knowing that the apple headphones make my right ear hurt. These were fantastic...until about two weeks ago, when the plastic coating on the wire (close to the plug), tore out, exposing the wire. I broke out some electrical tape, but that just slid around on the wire, and made it difficult to fully plug in the headphones. Because of that, the wires got damaged, and only one side (right) works.
Fortunately, I bought these for $20-$25, but if I had paid full price (it was around $80 at the time), I'd really be furious.

Worked fine for 5 months (21 January 2010)
These were a huge improvement over the stock headphones/mic that came with my iphone. I paid the $75 and was quite happy with the longer, beefy cable and the ability to answer the phone while listening to music. Well.... today the mic simply stopped working....

I bought these in Sept 2009 - They sounded great till the left bud gave in. The left side now sounds about 1/3rd as compared to the right side. I will use these for taking calls while on the road (right bud + microphone) Don't know how long that will last. I paid $67 for these - not worth the price for 3 months of use. Look elsewhere and don't buy these earbuds.

Good pair of earphones but for the current price look around (26 December 2009)
My review is based off the price I paid for these earphones. I purchased the Ultimate Ears MetrofFi 200v Earphones w/ Mike a while back and paid $24.99 for them at the time. Not sure why but they're priced at close to $90 now. I'm kicking myself for not buying two pairs of these after seeing the new price! Comparable earphones around the $25 to $35 range do not compare to the Ultimate's but at the current price there are comparable brands.

Before purchasing the UE MetroFi I bought some similar Sennheisers Earphones at or around the current price of the Ultimates ($75). The Senn's were fragile, the sound wasn't great but not bad either. Mostly the comfort of the ear buds was off. They broke after a couple weeks use. I needed a new pair but didn't want to pay another $75 for something this fragile and uncomfortable. Then I found the Ultimate Ears MetroFi 200 and thought I would take a chance. I mean what did I have to lose at $24.99? Not much!

Well, I have to say, at the price I paid they were a STEAL (although, at the price they're at now, I still think they would be a worthwhile purchase but in that price range there are equal or better contenders). The UE MetroFi 200's offered good clean crisp sound, solid construction (can take some abuse without problem), no distortion from the mike when talking to others, long cord for reach, comfortable ear buds (comes with three buds custom sized to fit your ears), and they come with a carrying case for protection when not in use (something the Sennheisers lacked).

I've been using them on a daily basis for over six months now without one issue and they continue to deliver. I will be sad when they finally go kaput, unless they go back to being $24.99 again!
