Customer Reviews:

  Love it! (11 March 2010)
I was given the Kindle 2 as a gift for Christmas by my parents-in-law.
I love my Kindle and can't imagine not having it! I'm an extremely avid reader and have a giant bookcase full of "Backup books" in case I run out of newly purchased or library borrowed books.
With the Kindle, I will never again run out of books to read- I can (and have) download hundreds of them from anywhere I want!
I have had the Kindle for about 4 months and have used it every day without any issues. I love the one-click purchase process through Amazon, as well as the huge amount of books to choose from. I have found many new authors through downloading the 'free' books that are available. I had concerns about eye strain from reading from an electronic reader, since I look at a computer screen all day, but have had no issues whatsoever.
I can't imagine ever liking another gift more than this!

Kindle + Me=A match made in Heaven (10 March 2010)
After researching and reading reviews on all the E-readers available (it took me 4 months to decide) I purchased my Kindle 1 month ago and I am in love with it! I began looking at Sony easy reader an found they had serious software problems. Then I heard of 2 previously unknown to me- the cool-ER e-reader and the Aluratek(sp) both of which were very poor quality. I had decided on the Nook from Barnes and Noble but some things about it troubled me. Why doesn't B&N have a page for consumers to review their product? Are they afraid of bad reviews? Secondly was the number of people complaining of breakage trying to remove the Nook from its packaging. I began seeing people on Twitter talking about how much they loved their Kindles and I decided to give it a look. I should have looked here first. My reasons for wanting an e-reader in the first place were the same as most everyone elses: convenient, lightwieght, far less storage space required, and for me at least not having a decent bookstore within 20 miles of me. I have not been disappointed in my purchase at all and downloading a book is effortless. Just be sure to buy a jacket at the same time you purchase your Kindle. I didn't and I had a very nervous week waiting for it to protect my investment.

  Kindle Kismet (10 March 2010)
My wonderful children shared the expense for my Kindle by getting me Amazon giftcards for my 50th birthday, and what a wonderful gift it was! Pockets of "wasted" time that I previously spent anxiously waiting on someone or something, are now considered opportunities to read and relax for a few minutes... like mini vacations away from the "real" world. My Kindle fits neatly in a padded pocket of my purse and I have it with me at all times. It is so much easier to take on buses, planes, car trips, doctor appointments and anywhere I go than regular books. My favorite feature is being able to read without holding pages open, allowing me to read while enjoying lunch, or even while holding my grandson, or petting my golden retriever. Last week I was in the hospital and my sister read to me while I awaited test results, no need to remember page numbers, just turned it off when the staff came in, and resumed reading when they left... it made the time pass so much more pleasantly and quickly. Waiting, before I had my Kindle, could cause me to lose time and lose my temper... now I just lose myself in a good book!

The Kindle and the customer support is amazing! (10 March 2010)
My screen on my Kindle was acting funny, the page was frozen and I couldn't change the screen no matter what button I pushed. I called customer support answered their questions describing the problem to the lady. The lady had me try a few tricks but nothing was working so she is sending me a new Kindle that will be here tomorrow! Not only was the lady nice she was also patient with me when I was describing the problem and when I had to grab the charger(it took me 3 minutes to get it!) The only bad thing I can say about the Kindle is there is no sleep timer for when I have the text-to-speech on before bed. If you love to read or if you're a student and have to get textbooks this is a great investment! My favorite thing is when I finish a book I can buy another one within seconds. Or if I'm in a bookstore and see a book that looks good I just buy it through my kindle for almost half the price.

Almost Perfect Product... (10 March 2010)
As a voracious (some might say obsessive) reader, I've been considering the Kindle since it was first released. I've always had a great experience with previous purchases from Amazon, and combining that with my distaste for Sony, the Kindle was the best choice for me.

I was astonished with the appearance of the screen. The resolution is wonderful for the size of the screen and the 16 shade of gray display is suprisingly detailed. I spend as much time as possible in the outdoors, and this screen really does read just like the page of a book with the added bonus of being able to change the font size when I'm tired of using my bifocals.

Light weight and streamlined, it's a perfect addition to my pack when I'm camping. Most of the books that are my favorites are immense monsters, and I've been able to combine my love of reading and my love of not breaking my back on long multi-day hikes and snowboarding trips.

My one complaint so far is that the 5 direction key is miniscule, and can be very hard to use. I have rheumatoid arthritis, and it can be terribly hard to use this key. I understand that the limitations of the eInk technology demand a definite "click and select" key, but perhaps some sort of a roller ball, or a textured surface to the key could be considered and implemented in future editions.
